Mission Bay is Auckland's most popular urban beach, set along a curving sandy shore on the Waitematā Harbour. The promenade, fountain, and views of Rangitoto Island make it a classic Auckland experience.
The bay takes its name from a Melanesian Mission school established here in 1859. The area developed as a seaside resort in the early 20th century, and the Mission Bay fountain was gifted to the city in 1953.
