Overview
Cornwall Park is a 172-hectare public park in central Auckland that wraps around One Tree Hill, combining heritage farmland with recreational grounds. It was gifted to the people of New Zealand by Sir John Logan Campbell in 1901.
Highlights
- Working Farm: Sheep and cattle graze on open pastures, giving the park a rural character rare in a major city.
- Historic Trees: The park contains over 300 mature exotic and native trees, many planted over a century ago.
- Acacia Cottage: Auckland's oldest surviving building (1841), relocated to the park and open for viewing.
History
The land was originally part of a Māori gardening area before Campbell purchased it in the 1850s. He bequeathed it to the nation, stipulating it should remain a public park in perpetuity. The Cornwall Park Trust manages it today.
