Bastion Point (Takaparawhau) is a prominent headland in the Auckland suburb of Ōrākei offering panoramic views across the Waitematā Harbour, downtown skyline, and Rangitoto Island. It holds deep historical significance for Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei.
Bastion Point was the site of a landmark 506-day occupation in 1977–78 by Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, protesting the planned sale of their ancestral land for housing. The protest and subsequent Waitangi Tribunal ruling led to the return of the land and shaped New Zealand's approach to Treaty claims.
