Albert Park is a formal Victorian-era garden in the heart of Auckland's CBD, offering a green oasis amid the surrounding university buildings and commercial streets. Its ornamental flowerbeds, fountain, and mature trees make it a popular lunching spot.
The park occupies the site of Albert Barracks, a military installation built in 1846. After the barracks were decommissioned, the land was developed as a public park in the 1880s. Segments of the original barracks wall still stand at the park's edge.
