Amed is a tranquil coastal strip in northeastern Bali comprising a series of small fishing villages along a volcanic black-sand coastline. Its calm, clear waters and accessible coral reefs make it one of Bali's best snorkeling and diving destinations.
Amed was historically one of Bali's salt-producing regions, with traditional salt farming practiced along the coast for centuries. Tourism development arrived much later than in southern Bali, preserving its rural character.
