Tai O Fishing Village

Overview

Tai O is a traditional fishing village on the western coast of Lantau Island, famous for its stilted houses built over the tidal flats. Often called the 'Venice of Hong Kong.'

History

Tai O has been a fishing community for centuries, with evidence of salt production dating to the Qing dynasty. Its stilt-house architecture preserves a way of life largely vanished elsewhere.

• Getting there: Bus 11 from Tung Chung or via Ngong Ping Village.
• Combine with: Tian Tan Buddha and Ngong Ping 360.
• Duration: 1.5–2 hours.
