Overview
Chi Lin Nunnery is a breathtaking Buddhist complex in Diamond Hill, entirely built in the Tang dynasty architectural style — no nails were used in the entire construction.
Highlights
- Nail-free Construction: Every joint uses traditional interlocking timber techniques from 7th-century China.
- Main Hall: Houses gold, clay, and wooden statues of Sakyamuni Buddha.
- Lotus Ponds: Perfectly manicured water features reflecting the temple's timber architecture.
History
Originally established in 1934, the nunnery was completely rebuilt between 1994 and 2000 at a cost of HK$700 million based on Tang dynasty structures surviving in Shanxi province.
