Realejo

Overview

Realejo is Granada's former Jewish quarter (Judería), now a bohemian, art-filled neighbourhood between the Alhambra hill and the Campo del Príncipe plaza. It's known for its street art, independent shops, and relaxed local atmosphere.

• El Niño de las Pinturas: Large-scale street murals by the Granada-born artist Raúl Ruiz appear throughout the barrio.
• Campo del Príncipe: A large, leafy plaza lined with terrace bars — the social heart of the neighbourhood.

History

The Jewish community lived here until the expulsion of 1492. The neighbourhood was renamed "Realejo" (from the Arabic rabad al-yahud) and resettled by Christians. In recent years, it has become one of Granada's most creative and liveable barrios.
