Overview
The Museo de la Alhambra occupies the ground floor of the Palacio de Carlos V and houses one of Spain's finest collections of Hispano-Muslim art, spanning from the Caliphate period to the fall of Granada in 1492.
Highlights
- The Alhambra Vase: A 14th-century lustre-glazed ceramic vase, one of the finest examples of Nasrid pottery in existence.
- Nasrid Architectural Fragments: Carved wooden ceilings, stucco panels, and tile mosaics rescued from the Alhambra during restorations.
- Silk and Textile Gallery: Precious Nasrid silk fabrics and embroidery.
History
Created in 1870 to preserve artifacts from the Alhambra itself, the museum moved to its current home in the Carlos V palace in 1942. The collection traces Islamic civilisation in Spain across seven centuries.
