Casa de los Tiros

Overview

The Casa de los Tiros is a 16th-century fortified house-museum in the Realejo quarter. Named for the muskets (tiros) once displayed on its battlemented facade, it now houses a museum dedicated to Granada's history and cultural life.

Highlights

• Cuadra Dorada: The "Golden Hall" on the upper floor features a painted wooden ceiling with portraits of heroes and mythological figures.
• Granada Romanticism Collection: 19th-century prints, travellers' accounts, and photographs of the city.
• Fortified Facade: Carved stone figures of Hercules, Theseus, and other heroes adorn the entrance.

History

Built by the Gil Vázquez Rengifo family after the conquest of 1492, the house passed through several owners before becoming state property. It became a museum in 1929 and was declared a national monument.
