The Whirling Dervishes show at Wekalet El Ghouri is a free weekly Sufi music and dance performance held in a beautifully restored 16th-century caravanserai in the heart of Islamic Cairo.

History

The Sufi whirling tradition originated with the Mevlevi Order founded by followers of the 13th-century poet Rumi. The Cairo troupe, Al-Tannoura Egyptian Heritage Dance Troupe, has preserved Egyptian Sufi performance arts for decades.
