Overview
A felucca ride is the quintessential Cairo experience — gliding in a traditional wooden sailboat down the Nile at sunset while the city's minarets and modern skyline glow against the darkening sky.
Highlights
- Sunset Sailing: The Nile reflects the colours of Cairo's spectacular sunsets as you drift silently past Zamalek and Garden City.
- Traditional Craft: Feluccas have sailed the Nile for thousands of years — the lateen-rigged vessels are virtually unchanged.
- City Panorama: See the Cairo Tower, riverside hotels, and illuminated Nile bridges from the water.
History
Feluccas have been used on the Nile since at least the time of the pharaohs. The traditional lateen (triangular) sail allows them to navigate the river's currents effectively. Today's fleet of several hundred feluccas operates primarily for tourism and recreation.
Visitor Tips

- Timing: One hour before sunset is ideal for the best light.
- Duration: 45–60 minutes.
