Overview
Pacific Spirit Regional Park is an 874-hectare forest park bordering UBC, offering 73 kilometres of trails through second-growth coastal rainforest, bogs, and foreshore. It provides a wilderness experience minutes from downtown.
Highlights
- Trail Network: 73 km of trails for hiking, cycling, and horseback riding.
- Old Growth Remnants: Pockets of massive western red cedar and Douglas fir that survived historical logging.
- Wreck Beach: A clothing-optional beach at the park's western edge.
History
Established in 1989 from UBC Endowment Lands held in trust since 1923. Public pressure led to its designation as a regional park under the Greater Vancouver Regional District.
Visitor Tips
- Muddy Trails: Many trails are unpaved and very muddy October–March—wear waterproof boots.
- Trail Maps: Pick up a free trail map at the park centre; cell reception is spotty inside the forest.
- Duration: 1.5–3 hours.
