Overview

Sint-Anna is a quiet residential quarter northeast of the centre, where lace shops, almshouses, and brick row houses offer a glimpse of everyday Bruges life away from the tourist trail. The area clusters around the Sint-Annakerk and the Jeruzalemkerk.

History

Sint-Anna was historically a working-class neighbourhood of lace workers and artisans. Many of its almshouses were founded in the 14th–17th centuries by wealthy guilds as charitable housing for elderly workers.

• Combine: Walk from the Jeruzalemkerk through Sint-Anna to the windmills on the Kruisvest.
