Overview
Melbourne Zoo is Australia's oldest zoo, established in 1862 in the leafy inner suburb of Parkville. Home to over 320 species, it combines heritage architecture with modern open-range exhibits.
Highlights
- Trail of the Elephants: A large open-range Asian elephant habitat designed to replicate a Thai village setting, complete with a traditional pavilion and monsoon forest.
- Wild Sea: An underwater viewing area where Australian fur seals and little penguins swim in a recreated Port Phillip Bay environment.
- Gorilla Rainforest: A naturalistic gorilla habitat shaded by mature fig trees.
History
