Overview
Twin Peaks are two prominent hilltops rising 282 meters in the geographic center of San Francisco, offering the most spectacular 360-degree panoramic views in the city. On clear days, visibility extends across the entire Bay Area.
Highlights
- North Peak Views: The city skyline, Bay Bridge, and downtown skyscrapers spread out directly below.
- South Peak Views: Views toward Daly City, the Pacific Coast, and on clear days, the Farallon Islands 48 km offshore.
- Night Views: The glittering nighttime cityscape from Twin Peaks is one of the most romantic views in San Francisco.
History
The Ohlone people called these peaks "Los Pechos de la Chola" (Breasts of the Maiden). They are among the last undeveloped hilltops in San Francisco and have been a public park since 1922. The surrounding area is home to the rare Mission Blue butterfly.
Visitor Tips
- Wind and Fog: It is almost always windy and often foggy at the summit — bring a warm jacket regardless of conditions downtown.
- Sunset: Arrive 30 minutes before sunset for the best light on the city.
- Duration: 30–45 minutes.
