Overview
The Lin An Tai Historical House is a superbly restored 18th-century Fujian-style traditional mansion and the oldest surviving residential building in Taipei.
Highlights
- Fujian Architecture: Classic Southern Chinese sanheyuan (three-section compound) with swallowtail ridgeline roofs, fine woodcarvings, and a traditional courtyard layout.
- Chinese Garden: An elegant traditional garden with a crescent pond, pavilions, and a nine-turn bridge.
- Cultural Exhibits: Period furnishings and displays showing daily life in Qing-dynasty Taipei.
History
Built between 1783 and 1823 by the wealthy Lin family, the house was dismantled and relocated from its original Dunhua South Road site in 1978 when road widening threatened it. It was painstakingly rebuilt on its current Binjiang Street site.
