Overview
Pak Khlong Talat is Bangkok's largest flower market, a 24-hour wholesale hub near the Memorial Bridge selling fresh-cut flowers, garlands, and tropical plants. The market is most vibrant — and photogenic — in the pre-dawn hours when trucks arrive from the provinces.
Highlights
- Jasmine Garlands: Intricate phuang malai (flower garlands) handmade for temple offerings and personal blessings.
- Pre-Dawn Energy: The most magical time to visit is between 02:00 and 04:00 when wholesale trading peaks.
- Tropical Orchids: Thailand's famous orchids in every colour, available at a fraction of export prices.
History
The market has operated on this riverside site since the 1960s. Before flowers, the area was a fruit and vegetable market — Pak Khlong literally means "mouth of the canal."
Visitor Tips
- Night Owl Visit: For the full experience, visit between midnight and 04:00 — the colours and energy are unforgettable.
- Daytime: Still open, but smaller and less atmospheric.
- Duration: 30–60 minutes.
