Overview
Museo Soumaya is a free private museum funded by Carlos Slim, housed in a sculptural aluminium-hexagon-clad building designed by Fernando Romero. Its six floors hold over 66,000 works spanning 30 centuries of art.
Highlights
- Rodin collection: The largest collection of Auguste Rodin bronzes outside France, including multiple casts of The Thinker.
- European Masters: Works by Dalí, Monet, Renoir, and Van Gogh alongside colonial-era Mexican paintings.
- Architecture: The 17,000-hexagon aluminium facade makes the building a landmark of Plaza Carso in Polanco.
History
Named after Slim's late wife Soumaya Domit, the museum opened in 2011. The collection began as Slim's private holdings assembled over four decades.
