The Saadian Tombs are a 16th-century royal necropolis sealed and forgotten for over 200 years until rediscovery via aerial survey in 1917. The mausolea contain 66 tombs including Sultan Ahmed al-Mansour.
Built by Ahmed al-Mansour around 1578, walled off by Alaouite Sultan Moulay Ismail in the late 17th century. French archaeologists opened a passage in 1917.
