The royal district encompassing the Royal Palace, Saadian Tombs, El Badi Palace ruins, and Kasbah Mosque. Quieter than the central medina, with wide streets and high walls.

History

Established by the Almohads in the 12th century as a fortified royal enclosure. Every subsequent dynasty has used it as a seat of power.

Visitor Tips

• Logical circuit: Bab Agnaou → Kasbah Mosque → Saadian Tombs → El Badi Palace.
• Quieter mornings: Fewer tourists than the northern medina.
• Duration: 45–60 minutes.
