Coogee Beach is a family-friendly crescent at the southern terminus of the Bondi to Coogee walk. Protected by Dolphin Point headland, its gentle waves and ocean rock pools make it popular with families and lap swimmers.
The Aboriginal Bidjigal people called this area "koojah" (stinking seaweed). The beach became a popular resort in the 1880s, with the Coogee Palace Aquarium (demolished 1986) once housing sharks and performing seals.
