(Note: The studio is temporarily closed for renovations until early 2026.)
The Brett Whiteley Studio in Surry Hills preserves the working studio of Australia's most celebrated modern painter (1939–1992). Managed by the Art Gallery of NSW, it displays Whiteley's paintings, drawings, and personal objects in the raw, light-filled space where he created them.
Whiteley used this Raper Street warehouse as his studio from 1985 until his death in 1992. His wife Wendy donated it to the Art Gallery of NSW, which opened it as a museum in 1995.
