Overview
Okonomimura is a multi-story building in central Hiroshima housing over 20 individual okonomiyaki stalls across three floors — each with its own counter, griddle, and loyal following. It's the definitive place to try Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki.
Highlights
- Hiroshima-Style: Unlike Osaka's mixed batter, Hiroshima okonomiyaki is layered — thin crepe, cabbage, pork, noodles, and egg, built up on the griddle before your eyes.
- Counter Seating: Sit at the counter and watch the chef assemble your okonomiyaki right in front of you on the teppan griddle.
- Variety: Each stall has its own secret recipe and specialty toppings — oyster, cheese, mochi, and more.
History
Opened in 1965 when several street-stall okonomiyaki vendors moved under one roof. It has since become Hiroshima's most famous food destination, with stalls passed down through generations.
