Overview
Momijidani (Maple Valley) Park is a stunning natural park at the base of Mount Misen on Miyajima island, named for the hundreds of maple trees that create one of Japan's most spectacular autumn foliage displays.
Highlights
- Autumn Colors: Over 700 maple trees create a blazing canopy of red, orange, and gold from mid-November to early December.
- Momiji Manju: The park gave its name to Hiroshima's most famous souvenir — maple-leaf-shaped cakes filled with sweet bean paste.
- Ropeway Station: The Miyajima Ropeway station at the park's edge provides access to Mount Misen's summit.
History
The park was established in the Edo period when maple trees were planted along the valley stream. The tradition of momiji (maple viewing) here has continued for over 300 years.
Visitor Tips
