History
Built in the 1590s by the powerful warlord Mōri Terumoto, the castle served as the seat of the Hiroshima domain throughout the Edo period. It was designated a National Treasure in 1931 but was completely destroyed by the atomic bomb in 1945, located just 960 meters from the hypocenter.
