Overview
South Beach is Miami's most iconic strip — a dazzling mile of pastel Art Deco hotels along Ocean Drive, with white sand, turquoise water, and legendary people-watching from café terraces.
Highlights
- Art Deco Architecture: The world's largest collection of Art Deco buildings (800+) in pastel pinks, blues, and yellows.
- Ocean Drive: The quintessential Miami scene — outdoor cafés, classic cars, and beautiful people.
- Beach: Wide white sand and clear turquoise water stretching for miles.
History
The Art Deco district was built in the 1930s-40s and nearly demolished in the 1970s before Barbara Capitman's preservation campaign saved over 800 buildings. It was designated a National Historic District in 1979.
