Overview
Key Biscayne is a serene barrier island with Crandon Park's pristine beach, the historic Cape Florida Lighthouse, and calm, family-friendly waters — a world away from the energy of South Beach.
Highlights
- Crandon Park Beach: Consistently ranked among America's best beaches — wide sand with calm shallow water.
- Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park: Home to the 1825 Cape Florida Lighthouse with harbor views.
- Nature Trails: Coastal mangrove trails and kayaking through the park.
History
The island was an isolated coconut plantation until the Rickenbacker Causeway connected it to Miami in 1947. The Cape Florida Lighthouse (1825) is the oldest standing structure in Miami-Dade County.
