Sungei Road Flea Market (also known as "Thieves' Market") was Singapore's oldest and most beloved outdoor flea market near Bugis, operating since the 1930s.
⚠️ Note: The market permanently closed on 10 July 2017 to make way for residential development and the Jalan Besar MRT station.
The market operated informally since the 1930s when residents bought and sold secondhand goods on the roadside. Known as 'Thieves Market' — the joke being you might find your own stolen goods for sale. At its peak it was a treasure trove of vintage cameras, watches, old coins, and Singapore memorabilia.
The closure of Sungei Road marked the end of an 80-year era. Some vendors relocated to stalls at Golden Mile Food Centre and Chinatown Market.
