Warsaw's Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of history's greatest reconstruction achievements. After the Nazis razed it in 1944, Poles rebuilt every building using paintings, photographs, and surviving fragments, completing the work by the 1960s.
Founded in the 13th century, the Old Town was 85% destroyed in the 1944 Warsaw Uprising. Its reconstruction was a national act of defiance and cultural survival.
