Overview
Jogyesa is the chief temple of the Jogye Order, the dominant school of Korean Zen Buddhism, located in central Seoul. It hosts the spectacular Lotus Lantern Festival each May when thousands of colorful lanterns fill the temple and streets.

History
Founded in 1910, Jogyesa became the administrative center of Korean Buddhism in 1938. Despite its modern founding, the Jogye Order traces its lineage to 9th-century Korean Zen masters.
