Mercato Centrale is Florence's main food market, housed in a soaring 1874 iron-and-glass hall. The ground floor sells fresh produce, meat, and fish to locals, while the first floor is a contemporary food court with artisanal stalls open until midnight.

History
Designed by Giuseppe Mengoni (who also designed Milan's Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II), the market opened in 1874. The first-floor food court was added in 2014.
