The Hungarian Parliament is Budapest's most iconic building—a neo-Gothic riverside palace with 691 rooms, 20 km of corridors, and a 96-metre dome. It houses Hungary's Crown Jewels, including the Holy Crown of St. Stephen.
Highlights
- Holy Crown: The 1,000-year-old Crown of St. Stephen, symbol of Hungarian statehood.
- Grand Staircase: The monumental ceremonial stairway.
- Dome Hall: The 96-metre dome (symbolising 896, the year of Hungarian arrival in the Carpathian Basin).
History
Designed by Imre Steindl and completed in 1904. It was inspired by the Palace of Westminster and is the third-largest parliament building in the world.
