Vieux Nice (Old Nice) is a labyrinth of narrow Italianate streets, Baroque churches, and ochre buildings between Castle Hill and Place Masséna. Its street-level charms—socca stalls, gelaterias, and flower-filled squares—make it the city's most atmospheric quarter.
Vieux Nice retains its medieval street plan and Italian Baroque architecture from when Nice belonged to the Kingdom of Sardinia. It was annexed by France only in 1860.
