Overview
Seurasaari is an island open-air museum preserving 87 historic wooden buildings from across Finland—farmsteads, churches, and manor houses—set in a forested natural park connected to the mainland by a footbridge.
Highlights
- Wooden church: An 18th-century church from Karuna, used for summer weddings.
- Traditional farmsteads: Furnished interiors showing Finnish rural life from the 17th to 19th centuries.
- Nature trails: Forest paths with squirrels, birds, and sea views.
History
Founded in 1909, the museum was inspired by Skansen in Stockholm. Buildings were transported from all over Finland.
