Temppeliaukio Church (Rock Church) is a Lutheran church excavated directly into solid rock, with rough-hewn granite walls, a copper-lined dome, and natural light flooding through 180 strip windows. Its acoustics make it a popular concert venue.
Designed by architects Timo and Tuomo Suomalainen, the church was completed in 1969 by blasting into a rocky outcrop. The design was controversial but quickly became a beloved landmark.
