Vyšehrad is a 10th-century hilltop fortress south of the city centre, offering river panoramas, a Romanesque rotunda, a neo-Gothic basilica, and a national cemetery where Dvořák and Smetana are buried—all with far fewer tourists than Prague Castle.
Legend says Vyšehrad was Prague's first settlement, seat of Princess Libuše who prophesied the city's glory. The fortress was the royal seat before Prague Castle and was rebuilt in Baroque style after the Hussite Wars.
