Overview
Vinohrady is Prague's most desirable residential neighbourhood, with tree-lined streets, Art Nouveau facades, excellent restaurants, and a cosmopolitan café scene. It feels like a leafy Central European version of Paris's Marais.
Highlights
- Náměstí Míru: The elegant square anchored by the neo-Gothic Church of St. Ludmila and the Art Nouveau National House.
- Riegrovy Sady: A hilltop park with a popular beer garden offering castle views.
- Restaurant scene: Some of Prague's best dining, from Czech bistros to international cuisine.
History
Once Vienna-facing vineyards (hence the name 'wine meadows'), Vinohrady was developed as an upmarket suburb in the late 19th century and retains its bourgeois elegance.
Visitor Tips
- Evening dining: Vinohrady's restaurants are generally better value and less touristy than Old Town.
