Overview
The Spice Bazaar (Misir Carsisi / Egyptian Bazaar) is a vibrant 17th-century L-shaped covered market overflowing with spices, Turkish delight, dried fruits, nuts, and teas — a feast for all senses.
Highlights
- Spice Stalls: Pyramids of colorful ground spices — saffron, sumac, cumin, and countless blends.
- Turkish Delight: Dozens of varieties from pistachio to pomegranate, offered freely as samples.
- Tea and Coffee: Specialty Turkish coffee, apple tea, and herbal blends sold by weight.
History
Built in 1664 as part of the Yeni Mosque complex, it was originally funded by Egyptian customs revenues — hence 'Egyptian Bazaar.' It has been Istanbul's primary spice and food market for over 350 years.
Visitor Tips
