Galata Bridge

Overview

The Galata Bridge spans the Golden Horn, connecting the historic old city (Eminönü) with the Beyoğlu district. Its double-deck design features fishermen on the upper walkway and a row of bustling restaurants below.

History

Five bridges have spanned this spot since 1845. The current bridge was completed in 1994. The previous bridge, a beloved pontoon structure from 1912, partially survives as a restaurant platform upstream.

• Walk Across at Sunset: The bridge at golden hour, with minarets silhouetted and fishermen backlit, is magical.
• Balık Ekmek: Try the grilled fish sandwich (balık ekmek) from the boats docked at the Eminönü end.
