The Giardini Reali (Royal Gardens) are a small but beautifully restored green space steps from St. Mark's Square, offering a rare patch of gardens and shade in Venice's most touristed area.
Created by Napoleon in 1807 — he tore down state granaries to make room. The gardens were commissioned as royal grounds for the Procuratie Nuove, which Napoleon used as his Venetian palace.
