Barcode Project

Overview

The Barcode Project is a row of striking, slender high-rise buildings along the waterfront in Bjørvika, each designed by a different architectural firm. Together they form a modern skyline that has redefined Oslo's visual identity.

Highlights

• Architecture: Twelve narrow buildings of varying heights and materials, designed by firms including MVRDV, Dark Arkitekter, and a-lab.
• The Gaps: Deliberate spaces between the buildings preserve views of the Ekeberg hills from the city centre.
• Night Illumination: Each building is lit differently at night, creating a dramatic barcode-like silhouette.

History

Completed between 2007 and 2016 as part of the massive Fjord City urban renewal project that transformed Oslo's industrial waterfront into a modern mixed-use district.

• Best View: Photograph the row from the Opera House roof for the most dramatic perspective.
• Walk Through: The street-level passages between buildings contain shops and restaurants.
