NEMO Rooftop Terrace

Overview

The stepped rooftop of the NEMO Science Museum doubles as a public square with panoramic views over the IJ waterway, Centraal Station, and the historic city centre. It is freely accessible without a museum ticket.

History

Designed by Renzo Piano as an integral part of the NEMO building (1997). The rooftop was conceived as both a public amenity and an extension of the waterfront promenade.

Visitor Tips

• Tip 1: Bring drinks and snacks — there is a small café but it gets busy.
• Tip 2: Sunset views facing west towards Centraal Station are spectacular.
• Duration: 15–30 minutes.
