Overview
Viktoriapark crowns the Kreuzberg hill — the highest natural point in inner-city Berlin at 66 m. At its summit stands Schinkel's 1821 cast-iron war monument; down its north face flows a 24 m artificial waterfall.
Highlights
- Waterfall: A cascading rock waterfall modelled on a Silesian mountain stream, flowing from April to October.
- Schinkel Monument: The neo-Gothic cast-iron memorial to the Napoleonic Wars of Liberation.
- Panoramic views: The hilltop offers views across Kreuzberg, Tempelhof, and beyond.
History
The hill gave the Kreuzberg district its name (Kreuz = cross, referring to the iron cross atop the monument). The park and waterfall were designed by Hermann Mächtig in 1888–94.
Visitor Tips
- Best in spring: The waterfall runs April–October and the hillside is lush.
- Beer garden: Golgatha at the park's southern base is a favourite summer spot.
- Duration: 30–45 minutes.
