Tucked in the heart of La Latina, Mercado de la Cebada is an authentic working-class food market where locals shop for daily provisions—a vibrant antidote to the touristy Mercado de San Miguel.
A market has occupied this site since the 15th century; "La Cebada" (barley) refers to the grain once sold here. The current Brutalist structure was built in the 1960s. Despite periodic threats of redevelopment, it remains defended by its loyal neighbourhood shoppers.
