History
Named after Edward Harley, 2nd Earl of Oxford, the street has been a shopping destination since the late 18th century. Selfridges opened in 1909, transforming it into London's premier retail thoroughfare. Plans are underway to pedestrianize part of the street.

- Avoid Saturday afternoons: The street is very crowded on weekends; weekday mornings are much calmer.
- Side streets: Quieter shopping on St Christopher's Place and South Molton Street, just off Oxford Street.
