Overview
Stockbridge is a charming, village-like neighborhood just north of the New Town, nestled in the valley of the Water of Leith. It has a thriving independent scene of boutiques, delis, charity shops, and excellent cafés.
Highlights
- The Shops: A high street packed with independent bookshops, vintage clothing stores, antique dealers, and artisan food shops.
- The Water of Leith: The river runs through the heart of Stockbridge, with beautiful walking paths along its banks in both directions.
- Ann Street: Often cited as the most beautiful residential street in Edinburgh, a Georgian terrace where front gardens spill flowers onto the pavement.
History
Originally a separate village outside Edinburgh, Stockbridge was absorbed into the city as the New Town expanded in the early 19th century. It retained its village identity and has long attracted artists, writers, and bohemian residents.
