Overview
The Scotch Whisky Experience is an interactive visitor attraction at the top of the Royal Mile, offering a comprehensive introduction to Scotland's national drink through a barrel ride, guided tastings, and a massive whisky collection.
Highlights
- The Barrel Ride: A gentle indoor ride through the whisky-making process, from malting to maturation, with atmospheric scent and visual effects.
- The Diageo Claive Vidiz Collection: The world's largest collection of Scotch whisky — 3,384 unopened bottles spanning every active and closed distillery in Scotland.
- The Guided Tasting: Expert-led tastings covering Scotland's five whisky regions, with a crystal glass to take home.
History
Opened in 1988 in a former school building at the top of the Royal Mile. The attraction was conceived by the Scotch whisky industry to educate visitors about the craft and regional diversity of Scottish whisky.
