Overview
Kongens Nytorv (The King's New Square) is Copenhagen's grandest and most prestigious public square. Serving as a massive, elegant roundabout, it connects the pedestrian shopping street Strøget with the picturesque Nyhavn canal.

History
Laid out by King Christian V in 1670 in connection with the expansion of the fortified city. The equestrian statue in the center—the oldest of its kind in Copenhagen—depicts the King himself in Roman dress.
