Overview
One World Trade Center (Freedom Tower) is the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere at 541 meters, rising from the site of the original World Trade Center as a powerful symbol of resilience and renewal.
Highlights
- One World Observatory: Three observation decks on floors 100–102, reached by a dramatic "SkyPod" elevator featuring a time-lapse video of 500 years of Manhattan construction during the 47-second ascent.
- Reflecting Pools: The adjacent 9/11 Memorial's two massive waterfall pools sit within the exact footprints of the original Twin Towers, surrounded by bronze panels inscribed with every victim's name.
- The Oculus: Santiago Calatrava's spectacular white, wing-shaped transportation hub and shopping mall directly across the plaza.
History
The original Twin Towers (1973–2001) were destroyed in the September 11 terrorist attacks. One WTC was designed by David Childs of SOM and completed in 2014. Its height of 1,776 feet references the year of American independence.
